Chichen Itza

Chichén Itzá is the largest of the ruined Mayan cities on the Yucatán Peninsula and one of Mexico's most-visited tourist destinations. Construction began in the 7th century and the city reached its peak after the arrival of the Toltecs in the 10th century. It can take a whole day to see the extensive ruins of Chichén Itzá, which occupy 2.5 square miles. The site has two areas: the central "new" zone, which shows distinct Toltec influence, and the southern "old" zone, with mostly Puuc architecture. The most well-known monuments are in the new zone. Chichen Itza was a center of pilgrimage for the ancient Maya for over 1,000 years. This region of Mexico gets extremely hot during the peak daytime hours of noon until around 4 pm. Staying at a hotel nearby and starting your tour of the site early in the morning will significantly enhance your experience of Chichen Itza.

Teotihuacan

Teotihuacán is an ancient sacred site located 30 miles northeast of Mexico City, Mexico. The ruins of Teotihuacán are among the most remarkable in Mexico and some of the most important ruins in the world. Constructed around 300 AD, the holy city is characterized by the vast size of its monuments, carefully laid out on geometric and symbolic principles. Its most monumental structures are the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Pyramid of the Sun (the third-largest pyramid in the world) and the Pyramid of the Moon. Be prepared for lots of walking and climbing here, and remember that the altitude will make your exertions more tiring than usual. Teotihuacan was a large settlement by 150BC, its importance probably arising from a cave system with religious significance, located underneath the present day Pyramid of the Sun. As other settlements in the area diminished, Teotihuacan flourished and became a religious and economic center, controlling the region’s production of obsidian (the black stone used to make weapons and utensils). The Pyramid of the Sun is the third largest in the world.
Channel Tunnel

When England and France decided to link their two countries with a 32-mile rail tunnel beneath the English Channel, engineers were faced with a huge challenge. Not only would they have to build one of the longest tunnels in the world; they would have to convince the public that passengers would be safe in a tunnel this size. The Channel Tunnel is the longest undersea tunnel in the world. The section under the sea is 38km long. The three tunnels, each 50km long, were bored at an average 40m below the sea bed, and link Folkestone in Kent to Coquelles in Pas-de-Calais. In between the two train tunnels is a smaller service tunnel that serves as an emergency escape route. There are also several "cross-over" passages that allow trains to switch from one track to another. Today, trains roar through the tunnel at speeds up to 100 miles per hour and it's possible to get from one end to the other in only 20 minutes! It took $21 billion to complete the tunnel. That's 700 times more expensive than the cost to build the Golden Gate Bridge! Many of the tunnel boring machines used on the Chunnel were as long as two football fields and capable of boring 250 feet a day. When construction began in 1988, British and French tunnel workers raced to reach the middle of the tunnel first. The British won. In the first five years of operation, trains carried 28 million passengers and 12 million tons of freight through the tunnel.

Hoover Dam

Named one of the Top 10 Construction Achievements of the 20th Century, Hoover Dam continues to draw crowds more than 70 years after its creation. Attracting more than a million visitors a year, Hoover Dam is located in Black Canyon, just minutes outside of Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam’s construction began in 1931, and it was completed five years later. It was built as a source of hydroelectric power generation, to provide water for agricultural purposes and to prevent floods. The Dam weighs over six-and-a-half million tons, and incorporates over three million cubic yards of concrete – enough to construct a motorway connecting New York to San Francisco! The view from the dam also offers a breathtaking look at Lake Mead, the country's largest man-made reservoir. When finished, the Hoover Dam stood as the largest electric-power generating site in the world, as well as the largest structure made out of concrete. One of the most interesting facts about the Hoover Dam is that it contains more masonry than the Pyramid of Giza.

Michael Jackson- A legend

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an recording artist, entertainer, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. He was born August 28, 1958 - one of 9 kids. His father reportedly nicknamed him "Big Nose". Mike was born a cute African-American guy. "Normal", if you will, and very talented. Despite the, sad stories about his lonely, sad childhood, Mike grew up surrounded by famous people and an adoring public. There was no one who wasn't impressed and didn't sprain an ankle trying to imitate his "Moon Walk" in their living room.In an insult to transvestite men everywhere - who can look pretty damn good in a dress and makeup and can project alluring female charm - when Mike does this, he doesn't even have the decency to stop grabbing his crotch every 1.0045 seconds and allowing that image for us. The Los Angels County Coroner declared his death a homicide, and his personal physician pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief, and as many as one billion people around the world reportedly watched his public memorial service on live television. In March 2010, Sony Music Entertainment $US250 million deal with Jackson's estate to retain distribution rights to his recordings until 2017, and to release seven posthumous albums over the decade following his death.

River Nile- Longest in the World

The Nile is the longest river in the world, stretching north for approximately 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediterranean. Studies have shown that the River (Iteru, meaning, simply, River, as the Egyptians called it) gradually changed its location and size over millions of years. The Nile flows from the mountains in the south to the Mediterranean in the north. Egyptians traveling to other lands would comment on the "wrong" flow of other rivers. For example, a text of Tuthmosis I in Nubia describes the great Euphrates river as the "inverted water that goes downstream in going upstream." Three rivers flowed into the Nile from the south and thus served as its sources: the Blue Nile, the White Nile and the Arbara. Within the southern section between Aswan and Khartoum, land which was called Nubia, the River passes through formations of hard igneous rock, resulting in a series of rapids, or cataracts, which form a natural boundary to the south. Between the first and second cataracts lay Lower Nubia, and between the second and sixth cataracts lay upper Nubia. Along most of its length through Egypt, the Nile has scoured a deep, wide gorge in the desert plateau. At Aswan North of the first cataract the Nile is deeper and its surface smoother. Downstream from Aswan the Nile flows northerly to Armant before taking a sharp bend, called the Oena. From Armant to Hu, the River extends about 180 kilometers and divides the narrow southern valley from the wider northern valley.

Things to know for a busy life

Stress relief strategies such as breathing exercises can help you to turn off your body's stress reaction so you put a halt to chronic stress and can get back to your busy life. If you're one to grab a cup of coffee or can of cola when you need a little extra energy, you may be making yourself MORE tired in the long run. When your schedule's busy, often sleep is the first thing to be cut back, either intentionally or by default, so avoid cutting off you’re sleep. If you're feeling lethargic, a little exercise will actually leave you more energized, not less. Learning how to view stress as a 'challenge' rather than a threat can leave you feeling more energized.

Is there life after death?

Will they be in a better place? This is a sensitive topic and a lot of people don't want to talk about it. However, what happens after death is a matter that you MUST give attention to. At a funeral, the hopes of many grieving family and friends are that their loved one is at peace and that their life after death is finally free of all suffering. If heaven and hell are real, we all hope our loved one is in heaven. If you ask people who believe there is life after death why they think their loved one is at peace, some will say, "Because he/she was a good person." Others will say, "Because they never hurt anyone." or, "I don't believe a loving God would send them to hell". Not many want to consider the possibility that their loved one may not be good in the eyes of a Holy God. When it comes to life after death - heaven and hell, eternity is the wrong thing to be wrong about. And its a long time to be wrong!
Kareena chosen as brand ambassador for Mahindra Scooters

One of many reasons that have resulted in the super success of 3 Idiots has been its unique marketing strategies. Talking about marketing, there's yet another story that is attached to the film, which is in the form of the brand of scooter which Kareena rides in the film. The actress has now been signed up the brand ambassador for the same. We are indeed talking about Mahindra's new two wheeler 'PowerScooter', of which Kareena has been chosen as the brand ambassador. Talking about this, Bebo said that, "My experience with Mahindra scooter dates back to two years ago, when I rode a Mahindra 'PowerScooter' in 3 Idiots. I am delighted to be working with them." Kareena will now feature in a multimedia campaign for the brand. The first campaign will be for the Mahindra Rodeo, about which, she said "Rodeo is a youthful, fun and fresh brand. It has the right mix of style and power." The campaign will be officially launched soon.
WORLD'S HARDEST SPORT?

There is a debate raging about what is the world's hardest sport, with the top contenders being golf and polo, both considered among the most difficult sports to play proficiently. You cannot take a few golf lessons and go out and play on a standard 18-hole course where you are expected to complete a hole in 10-15 minutes. Depending on your definition of minimal proficiency, it can take hundreds of hours of practice to be able to enjoy playing golf. My Dad used to say that you must strike at least 10,000 gold balls to be proficient, while other claim that you must hit at least 100,000 golf balls to achieve proficiency as a golfer. To play “bogie” golf (a score of 90 or less), most experts estimate that it takes an average player six years of regular play and weekly golf lessons. On the golf channel they claim that an average proficient golfer takes about 300 weekly lessons while playing at least 32 holes per week over a period of many years. This is a major investment of time, over 20,000 hours of practice.

MAKE READING A HABIT

The habit of reading is a sign of culture. It is a great source of enjoyment and the best means of utilising time. Entertaining books are numerous and varied. Books are treasures of knowledge. The heaped up wisdom of the ages lies peacefully in a book, and it can be ours if we have the will to pick it up. It is always to be remembered that a book can bring sure change to the person reading it. In the past decade or so, however, people have become less and less interested in reading books. They no longer regard reading as a way to elevate the soul and sharpen their insight. Instead, they have developed a pragmatic attitude towards reading. Books are merely seen as a tool to acquire the knowledge that might help the reader enrol in university, acquire some skills, find a good job, get promoted in their career or prevail in market competition. My advice as of now, do three things. Read, Read and READ.

Living with a pride

Lions are the only cats who live in large, social groups, called “prides.” A pride is made up of 3 to 30 lions. The pride consists of lionesses (mothers, sisters, and cousins), and their cubs, along with a few unrelated adult males. The pride has a close bond and is not likely to accept a stranger. The unrelated males stay a few months or a few years, but the older lionesses stay together for life. In dry areas with less food, prides are smaller, with two lionesses in charge. In habitats with more food and water, prides can have four to six adult lionesses.
